About Us

Amber D Barnes, Director/Owner
With 33 years of dance experience it is obvious that Miss Amber has a true passion for dance. She began her early dance training  in Texas and has been dancing in the Treasure Valley for the past 26 years. She has studied classical ballet, jazz and tap with many of the nations top choreographers. During the summer of 2009, Miss Amber was awarded and completed a Research Fellowship with Jacob's Pillow Dance in Massachusetts. Miss Amber has been teaching ballet, tap and jazz in the valley for over 18 years and has entertained and choreographed for professional sports teams, as well as
beauty pageants. She is currently the Children's Rehearsal Director for Eugene Ballet Company, showcasing local talent in The Nutcracker,  Alice in Wonderland and Swan Lake. She is also the West Coast Director for American Dance Training Camp. She believes that each and every child should be given the opportunity to enjoy dance in a structured and loving environment. Although Miss Amber does not have children of her own, she does have many "little dancers" around the valley. She attended and studied Sports Management at The College of Idaho. Miss Amber continued her education at Goddard College in Vermont where she focused her studies in Dance and earned a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, completing her thesis on the socioeconomics of dance.

Kendyl Thorne
Upper Division Instructor

After being involved in dance for the past 15 years, Kendyl is positive that dance is where lies her true passion and happiness in life.  Kendyl has been dancing since she was three years old and knows she wants dance to always be a part of her life.  She first began her training in Pendleton, Oregon as a member of Jr. Jam Dance Studio.  Kendyl was coached by Debbie Kishpaugh for 13 years through Jr. Jam Dance Studio and also her high school dance team, Rhythmic Mode.  It was in Pendleton that Kendyl was given her roots in dance and that her true passion and love for dance blossomed.  She began working as an assistant for Debbie Kishpaugh in her studio when she was ten years old.  She was a captain of her high school dance team for two years and was a member of two State Champion teams and two fourth placing dance teams.  During Kendyl’s senior year she was chosen as a member of the Oregon All-State Dance Team and received the Oregon Dance Scholarship.  Kendyl has attended Tremaine Dance Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past four years and has taken classes from some of the best choreographers in the nation.  She has also attended and assisted at Thunderbird Dance Camp in Oregon.  Kendyl is now a freshman at Boise State University.  She is majoring in Nursing and minoring in Dance.  Kendyl not only has a passion for dance, but teaching others who share a passion for dance as well.  She believes that dance is something that has many purposes in life, but more than anything its purpose is  to be enjoyed.  Dance is a major part of Kendyl’s life and she is so very thrilled to be involved at The Dance Academy.
